Sous Chef Mine

I hope the title of the blog intrigues you. What sous chef would he call "Mine"? Is it a girlfriend? Is he writing about his second personality? Actually, it is in the same format as most of my other Sous Chefs. Mine pronounced "me + na" is my co-worker at intramurals. As you can imagine, people don't get her name right the first time. Unfortunately, I don't have a fun origin story for Mine and I's friendship.

Things I appreciate about Mine:

1) I can count on her for a smile. I think this is a rare thing for people whose resting face is not a smile. Every time I run into Mine at work, she smiles and greets me. Smiles are so powerful and work would be duller without Mine's.

2) I can count on Mine for a story or a joke. She's a great storyteller and has fantastic facial expressions. I love listening to her crazy Intramural sports stories or other stories. She will also play along with any of my jokes in a way that makes them better.

3) Mine tries to get to know me and probably everyone. On Fridays, we have "FNL" which is when the co-workers get together to play a sport for an hour or more. I thought maybe I'd make friends with my athleticism and then they would put me on their intramural team. While that did happen, the more impactful friendship I've made during FNL has been Mine. She took the time to ask me about who I was. I think that is important. I think I hope friendship just comes to me. I really haven't had to make friends until college. I grew up with them. Mine reminded me friendship takes time and effort. She started to put that into me and I am thankful for it.

4) Mine gives you respect because I simply am. I did not do anything to earn her respect, she just treats everyone with it. She has respected my faith and values. She has respected my personality and humor. She respects people because they are people and that's important.

Mine:

I don't have much to say other than thank you. Thanks for being a great friend and co-worker even though we aren't that close. I appreciate who you are and my shifts are more fun with you there. Keep being you, you are a blessing to me.
